One new addition for this year’s festival is The Mongo Man sporting event. To become a Mongo Man (or woman), participants will start at 7:30 a.m. with a 5K run beginning at the church and ending at The Trading Post Canoe and Kayak where participants will jump in their kayaks and paddle to the Nasby Dam stop, where they will mount bicycles and pedal back to the church. When it’s all done, participants will have covered 10.2 miles. All finishers be declared a “Mongo Man”, will receive a medal, T-shirt and other prizes. Water stations will be available along the route, and participants must provide their own bicycle. The entry fee for the Mongo Man is $35.00, payable at registration or ahead of time through the mail or at The Trading Post Canoe and Kayak. Those who are interested in only the 5K portion may also participate for a $20.00 entry fee, which will cover, T-shirt, water, and snacks. Registration forms will be available on the website at www.pigeonriverfest.com by Sept. 3. The event is created in the style of an Iron Man contest, but with a decidedly “Mongo” twist.

Another new event this year will be the skillet toss. Participants will have the opportunity to compete in a distance throwing contest similar to a shot put, but with skillets. All throws will take place individually, and distance marked, winners will be awarded in several age groups. Skillets will be provided, however you may bring your own.

A returning event for this year will be the Boondock Queen Contest. The contest is open to girls from 13- to 18-years-old who exhibit true, Boondock qualities. This year the girls will participate in a number of events including Boondock Fashion modeling, a hay bale toss, fence post setting contest, tractor obstacle course and a weight and distance guessing contest. The queen will be crowned at 4:30 PM, with official duties beginning at 5 with the release and capture of the ducks at the annual duck race.

Rocky Carr will be hosting a Cornhole Tournament for those who want to try their hand at this popular country game. Pre-registration is encouraged by calling Rocky at 260.336.3701. The tournament will take place at 3 PM with registration at the event beginning at Noon.

There will be new entertainment at the festival this year as well; Spencer Kane, a Prairie Heights High School student will perform at 11 AM; the Panther Power dance Team will perform at noon. Returning performers this year include; John Getz, Magic and Balloons by Ken, and music by Tammy Scalzo.

Other returning events are the Great American Pie Bake-off, the 4^th Annual Blessing of the Bikes, and the Parade at 2 PM. The day ends with the Duck Race on the Mighty Pigeon.
